British dad killed trying to reboard train

LONDON, May 16 (UPI) -- A British man was killed trying to board a moving train to get presents for his wife and son he had left on his seat.

David Davies, a printing manager in London, was on his way home last week on a commuter train to Bexleyheath, The Daily Mail reported. He reportedly fell asleep and missed his stop, then got off at the next station, realizing too late that he had left behind flowers for his wife and a toy SmartCar for his son.

Davies' wife said that her husband bought a present for their son, Daniel, 3, almost every week. She said that he called to tell her about the car before he left work.

"Daniel was over the moon, really excited and Dave knew that," she told the newspaper. "That is why he was so desperate to get the gift back. He had made a promise to his son and wanted to keep it."

Davies apparently tried to stop the train by banging on the window and then attempted to jump to a platform between two rail cars but missed and fell under the train, The Daily Mail said.
