CHARLESTON, W.Va., May 8 (UPI) -- Democrats will have a U.S. presidential candidate and if that's not Sen. Hillary Clinton then she'll support Sen. Barack Obama, her campaign chairman said.
Clinton campaign Chairman Terry McAuliffe said if Clinton, D-N.Y., isn't the presumptive nominee by the last primaries June 3, she would campaign for Obama, D-Ill., indicating she would not endanger party unity, the Los Angeles Times reported.
"She can win the states we need to win in the general election," McAuliffe said on NBC's "Today" show. "Until there is a nominee with the number of necessary delegates, why should she get out?"
Clinton, stumping in West Virginia, which has its primary Tuesday, said she was pressured to bow out after losing in Iowa and losing more states than Obama on Super Tuesday.
"Some folks say, 'You've got end this before you get to West Virginia,'" Clinton told a crowd in Charleston. "I think we want to keep this going so the people of West Virginia's voices are heard."
"The delegate math may be complicated but the electoral math is easy," Clinton said, noting she won more swing states -- West Virginia neighbors Ohio and Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Texas -- than Obama.
