Castro announces pension reform

HAVANA, April 28 (UPI) -- Cuban President Raul Castro said he would increase state pensions by 20 percent and increase salaries for court employees, Granma newspaper reported Monday.

Castro noted, however, that the communist island nation did not have enough money to increase wages for everyone.

The Cuban leader, who this year replaced his older brother Fidel Castro as Cuban president, has made a number of reform proposals in recent weeks -- including opening up the country's agricultural sector and allowing Cubans to own cell phones and computers.
