Top Indonesia terrorist leaders sentenced

JAKARTA, April 21 (UPI) -- An Indonesian judge Monday sentenced two leaders of the Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist organization to 15 years in prison.

Abu Dujana and Zarkasih are the reputed military commander and overall leader of Jemaah Islamiyah, an Islamic militant group that experts say is no longer a serious threat to Indonesia's secular Muslim government.

"They do not have any active jihads at the moment," terrorism analyst Ken Conboy told Voice of America. "They seem to have no real capability to attract and maintain … substantial numbers of new

members. And as for the hard-line guys, they cannot seem to pull off any kinds of terrorist operations."

The two defendants were charged with violating anti-terrorism laws and illegal possession of guns and explosives.

After sentencing in Jakarta, Dujana insisted to reporters that he was not involved in Jemaah Islamiyah.
