Pakistan tests long-range missile

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, April 19 (UPI) -- Pakistan successfully test-fired a long-range surface-to-surface missile Saturday, Pakistani military officials said.

The Hataf-6 Shaheen-2 ballistic missile has a 1,242-mile range and has the capability of carrying either conventional weapons or nuclear arms, Geo TV of Pakistan reported.

The missile was launched from an undisclosed location, it was reported.

On hand for the launch were Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen. Tariq Majeed and Defense Minister Ahmed Mukhtar.

President Pervez Musharraf congratulated the scientists who worked on the project, the network said.
