Plane crashes into homes, injures five

LOS ANGELES, April 13 (UPI) -- A small plane crashed into two houses near Los Angeles' Compton Airport, injuring at least five people, officials said.

Four of the victims were hospitalized in serious condition, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday. The Cessna 310 crashed Saturday afternoon, shortly before the pilot was to make a landing.

The twin-engine plane crashed with its tail protruding upward from the center of a home.

"It shook my house. An airplane had come through the roof of my neighbor's home," Kenneth Wyatt told the newspaper.

Two of the victims were aboard the plane and three were on land, Compton Deputy Fire Chief Marcel Melanson told the Times.

The plane was coming from San Diego and on its way to Hawthorne Municipal Airport near Los Angles, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said.
