LONDON, April 7 (UPI) -- A new opinion poll indicates the British people are still in awe of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher 18 years after she left office.
A YouGov survey conducted for the Daily Telegraph found that when people were asked who they would pick to lead the country at the height of his or her powers, Baroness Thatcher surpassed Tony Blair, the newspaper reported Monday.
Trailing behind both Thatcher and Blair in the poll was Conservative leader David Cameron followed by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Almost two thirds of Tory voters said they would prefer Lady Thatcher to Brown.
Thatcher, 82, is also considered to be Britain's greatest post-war prime minister, ahead of even Winston Churchill during his second term in office, the newspaper said.
One third of those questioned for the survey said none of the current crop of conservatives could fill her shoes.
