Condemned heroin smuggler gets reprieve

HANOI, Vietnam, April 4 (UPI) -- A mentally ill British man condemned in Vietnam to the firing squad for smuggling heroin has had his sentence commuted to life in prison.

Le Manh Luong, 68, who suffered brain damage in the Vietnam war, escaped execution when Vietnam President Nguyen Minh Triet granted him clemency, the BBC said.
