Nepal: 2 dead, 2 wounded in mosque bombing

BIRATNAGAR, Nepal, March 30 (UPI) -- Bombs aimed at a mosque in Biratnagar, Nepal, killed at least two people and injured two others, police said.

The two people killed and two injured during Saturday night prayers were Muslims, who account for 4 percent of Nepal's mostly Hindu population of 26 million people, CNN reported Sunday.

"Two bombs were hurled at a roadside mosque, of which one exploded and the other didn't," Yogendra Katuwal, a senior police official said.

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala called the Saturday bombing a despicable and unnecessary occurrence and promised an investigation, China's Xinhua news agency reported Sunday.

The Nepal Defense Army, a Hindu militant group, claimed responsibility for the bombing .
