Cash not flowing to Senate GOP committee

WASHINGTON, March 26 (UPI) -- Well-heeled Republican senators have not contributed to fundraising efforts of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, federal reports said.

Less than 10 Senate Republicans met goals they received for an NRSC fundraiser with President George Bush Tuesday, The Hill reported Wednesday. The senators were asked to contribute $100,000 from their campaign accounts or recruit four major donors for the event.

Prominent GOP senators -- including Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, Richard Luger of Indiana, Olympia Snowe of Maine and Larry Craig of Idaho -- haven't offered a dime to the NRSC, campaign finance data collected by the Federal Election Commission indicate. A spokesman for Specter told the Hill the senator has recruited major donors for NRSC and given $50,000 to candidates through his leadership political action committee.

Democrats, meanwhile, are showering money on the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee for party causes, The Hill said. The DSCC reported to the FEC it had $32.8 million in cash on hand at the end of February, while the NRSC had only $15.3 million for the same reporting period.
