Man with 32 aliases identified

SEATTLE, March 25 (UPI) -- A Washington man who allegedly had 32 aliases when arrested by federal authorities has been identified as Scott Andrew Shain, an official said.

The 52-year-old man, whose fingerprints had been altered, is accused of theft and fraud, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported Tuesday.

Shain is accused of assuming the identity of teenage boys who died decades ago, the newspaper said. He reportedly is wanted on years-old warrants from Colorado and Seattle.

He burned his fingertips with chemicals in an apparent attempt to alter his prints, the newspaper said. Seattle police said he made concealed-weapons permit applications in 1991 and 1998 under other aliases.

His true name was confirmed by family members and military records, said FBI spokeswoman Robbie Burroughs.
