WASHINGTON, March 17 (UPI) -- The United States' image in the world has suffered as a result of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, a report said Monday.
Voice of America reported that international approval of the United States is at an all-time low, with demonstrations protesting U.S. policy commonplace in the international community.
The news network reported that Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa said the U.S. image has suffered immensely in the Middle East.
"The situation is going from bad to worse when it comes to the image of the U.S. The feelings, the friendly feelings ... prevailed for so many years in the Arab world vis-a-vis America and vice-versa -- but the recent developments in fact have derailed those relations and those feelings," Moussa said.
The Pew Research Center in Washington monitors global perceptions of the United States through surveys conducted in dozens of countries. Its president, Andrew Kohut, said the Iraq war "has been one of the, if not the, principle reasons behind the worldwide rise in anti-Americanism since 2001."
