Sri Lanka legislator killed by road mine

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, March 6 (UPI) -- A Tamil National Alliance legislator was killed Thursday when his vehicle hit a roadside mine in Kanagarayakulam in northern Sri Lanka.

The lawmaker, K. Sivanesan, was elected to Sri Lanka's parliament in the April, 2004 parliamentary election. He was on his way home when the mine was exploded, killing Sivanesan and his driver, the Colombo Page reported.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka parliament extended indefinitely the nation's state of emergency.
