CAPE TOWN, South Africa, Feb. 29 (UPI) -- Police in Cape Town, South Africa, are looking for a 30-year-old man suspected of raping and killing a 2-year-old girl, a report said.
Randolene Fortune died on her way to the hospital after being returned unconscious to her aunt by the man, who was a family friend, the (Cape Town South Africa) Cape Argus reported.
"My baby did not deserve this. She was so friendly. She was so small," the girl's mother said.
The child was being cared for by her aunt on Thursday before the neighborhood man picked her up at 1:30 p.m. and returned her unconscious and covered in a towel later that evening, the girl's mother said.
The man reportedly said the girl became dirty and went lame while he was washing her.
The girl's grandmother reportedly said the neighbor told his friends he was going to turn himself into police Friday but fled soon afterwards.
