Key Rwanda genocide suspect arrested

KIGALI, Rwanda, Feb. 29 (UPI) -- A key Rwanda genocide suspect has been arrested in France and is awaiting extradition to Kigali to face charges, a report says.

Claver Kamana was nabbed in the eastern French town of Annecy, the Kigali New Times reported, the second genocide suspect caught in France in two months.

Kamana was identified as a member of the executive committee of the Mouvement Republicain National pour la Democracie, the party that masterminded the 1994 genocide. He is accused of having spearheaded killings in the former Runda commune in Gitarama prefecture.

"He was among key financiers of the infamous Radio Television des Milles Collines -- a hate radio," prosecution spokesman Jean Bosco Mutangana said.

According to the indictment, Kamana is accused of six counts including genocide and complicity to genocide.

"He personally transported militiamen to killing sites and chaired various meetings that incited militias to commit genocide," Mutangana said.
