Instrument panel at JFK airport fixed

NEW YORK, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Recent delays at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport have been virtually eliminated after an equipment outage was fixed Monday.

The Instrument Landing System for Runway 22 L at Kennedy Airport was fixed Monday, said the Federal Aviation Administration.

The system, which helps pilots determine the angle of descent, glide slope, for aircraft making instrument approaches, broke down Monday morning, FAA spokeswoman Holly Baker said. It took three hours to get the system repaired, New York Newsday reported.

But, the FAA is still reporting major weather-related delays at LaGuardia airport. Those delays are running more than one hour and 45 minutes on arriving flights, mostly due to fog and low clouds, Baker said.

Outbound flights from Newark-Liberty are also being delayed up to 30 minutes due to excessive air traffic, heavy volume and gate-hold and taxi delays, officials said.
