NEWARK, N.J., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- A young man who allegedly tried to kill himself on a New Jersey college campus faces a long list of criminal charges.

Kevin Papalia was discovered wounded late Monday in a dormitory at Seton Hall University in East Orange, where his ex-girlfriend is a student. Police had been alerted by a friend who described him as distraught.

On Tuesday, the Essex County prosecutor announced that police had seized two rifles, one of them an illegal assault weapon, and the handgun Papalia used to shoot himself in the stomach, the Star-Ledger of Newark reported. He faces several weapons charges over the attempted suicide as well as resisting arrest and harassment.

Papalia was to be transferred from a Newark hospital to a state psychiatric facility for evaluation.

Prosecutor Paula Dow said police were still unsure whether Papalia shot himself at Seton Hall or before driving to the campus. The handgun was found in the trunk of his car.
