Rocket attack injures two in Israel

SDEROT, Israel, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Rockets reportedly launched Saturday by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have left two people, including an 8-year-old boy, injured in Israel.

The four rockets landed inside and around the Israeli city of Sderot after being launched from the Gaza Strip, resulting in the boy suffering serious injuries to both legs, Ynetnews reported.

The child was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment, while the other individual injured in the attack only suffered light-to-moderate wounds.

Islamic Jihad's military wing, the Al-Quds Brigades, has claimed responsibility for the most recent Qassam rocket attack in the Negev region.

The region in southern Israel has been hit by more than 30 rockets since Friday morning and the ongoing attacks resulted in an impromptu visit Saturday by Israeli Internal Security Minister Avi Dichter.

"I found a battered city. Twenty percent of its residents have gotten up and left," Dichter said of his visit to Sderot. "The residents have harsh feelings, because they believe the end of the Qassams is not in sight."
