Italy court cuts sentence in 'Lolita' case

VICENZA, Italy, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- The heart-felt feelings between an Italian man and his 13-year-old girlfriend resulted in a major reduction in his prison sentence.

An Italian court cut by two-thirds the sentence of Antonio de Pascale, 34, of Vicenza after ruling that he and his 13-year-old Lolita paramour were truly in love and the sex consensual.

Britain's The Daily Telegraph said Thursday that the ruling means it is unlikely De Pascale will spend any time in prison.

The ruling was quickly condemned in Italy. Critics said 13 years of age could not be considered mature and that the courts needed to protect young girls from unscrupulous adults.
