Pricey pooch pinched in Houston

HOUSTON, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- A Houston pet store owner says a bulldog puppy shoplifted from his store was worth a cool $4,000.

Frank Slack told KPRC-TV in Houston that a thief who apparently knew what he was looking for grabbed the dog from a back room at his store, stuck it under his coat and headed for the exit.

"They can go anywhere and sell the dog and probably get $1,000, $1,500, maybe $2,000," Slack said.

Slack took some precautions that could pay off in a quick apprehension of the alleged dognapper. Surveillance cameras not only got the suspect's picture but also the license number of the getaway car.

"The cops are probably sitting at his house waiting on him right now," Slack said, although there was no word from Houston police that an arrest had been made.
