JERUSALEM, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Israeli officials disagreed over the deployment of additional Egyptian troops along the border with Gaza, a report says.

The Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni presented recommendations Wednesday to allow Egypt to deploy additional security forces along the border with Gaza, but Maj. Gen. Amos Gilad with the Defense Ministry's Diplomatic-Security Bureau opposed the measure, The Jerusalem Post said.

Gilad opposes the move saying Egyptian security forces have enough personnel deployed, and one supporter said, "It is not a question of capability, but of determination."

Hamas militants breached the border fence in Gaza in January. Egyptian officials made repeated claims for additional forces to secure the area following the breach.

Israeli officials previously said increasing the number of Egyptian troops in the region was a "slippery slope" that engendered elements of the Camp David peace accords between Israel and Egypt.
