AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Parents who admitted leaving their children unattended in a vehicle so the adults could go drink margaritas were sentenced in one year in a Texas state prison.

Beatriz Pedroza, 26, pleaded guilty to one count of endangering a child and driving while intoxicated and will have to complete intensive outpatient care for alcoholism and parenting classes, the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman reported Monday.

Pedroza is the country illegally, court records said, but won't face deportation, the newspaper said.

Miguel Lopez, 33, who pleaded guilty to two counts of endangering a child, is also in the country illegally and will be deported after his sentence is served, said District Judge Ken Anderson.

Last Sept. 30, the couple's 1-year-old son and a 5-month-old daughter were found unsupervised in a Ford Expedition crying and covered in sweat, said a court release. An arrest affidavit said the children were alone in the vehicle for about 30 minutes, the American-Statesman said.
