St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert P. McCulloch said it was unclear whether Miller and Walters had known each other.

McCulloch added that one of Miller's neighbors provided authorities with information that directly led to Walters' arrest.

Since retiring from the Post-Dispatch last June, Miller had been helping teach prospective journalists at St. Louis Community College.
