WEST MELBOURNE, Fla., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Rep. Dave Weldon, R-Fla., is dropping his bid for re-election and will retire at the end of the year.
Weldon, who represents Florida's 15th District, has been in the House for 10 years and is the 21st Republican member planning to step down at the end of the 110th Congress.
Weldon, a medical doctor by training, said in a statement on his Web site that he decided to devote more of his time and energy to his family.
Speaking of family, Weldon's 21-year-old daughter, Katie, was arrested Friday after a fracas in the parking lot of a West Melbourne saloon. According to WKMG-TV in Orlandon, she allegedly cracked a man in the head with her shoe and was hauled away to the Brevard County Jail where she posted a $500 bond.
