Stolen voter computers recovered

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Authorities in Tennessee have recovered two stolen laptops that contain personal information on thousands of voters in the state.

The laptops were recovered in Goodlettsville, Tenn., Thursday just hours after police recovered the computers' hard drives that contained the names and Social Security numbers of 337,000 Davidson County voters, The Nashville Tennessean reported Friday.

The computers and their disks were found after a homeless man who turned himself in Thursday to authorities told police he had stolen the machines from the county Election Commission offices on Christmas Eve.

The suspect, Robert Osbourne, is in jail in lieu of $80,000 bail, the newspaper reported.

Police spokesman Don Aaron said investigators were examining the disks to determine if the information had been viewed, tampered with or copied.
