HUELVA, Spain, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Portuguese police are helping search for a 5-year-old Spanish girl who disappeared in circumstances similar to Britain's Madeleine McCann.
Mari Luz Cortes was reported missing Sunday in Huelva, Spain, about 120 miles from the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz where Madeleine disappeared last May, just days before her fourth birthday, the Daily Mail said Wednesday. Mari was last seen about 5 p.m. Sunday when she wandered off while her mother was resting at home.
Private detectives hired by Madeleine's parents were already looking into a possible link between the apparent abductions.
Huelva is on a route from Praia da Luz that Madeleine's parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, believe kidnappers may have used to take their daughter across the border into Spain and then onto a boat to Morocco, the newspaper said.
