Sarkozy mum on wedding rumors

PARIS, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- French President Nicolas Sarkozy refused to confirm reports he and singer Carla Bruni have married secretly -- but he hasn't denied them either.

Sarkozy scolded reporters in Qatar, where he is on an official economic mission, The Daily Telegraph reported.

"When I've got something to say, I'll tell you," he said. "So stop looking into my private life."

A French regional newspaper, l'Est Republicain, cited a source claiming to have heard a witness account of a civil ceremony at the Elysee Palace last week. Also last week, Sarkozy described the relationship as "serious," telling reporters they would only learn of his marriage when it is a fait accompli.

Reports have said Bruni has made arrangements for a honeymoon near Verona, Italy, the city most famous for the star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet.

Sarkozy's personal life, which has included becoming the first French president to divorce while in office and the combination of a romantic adventure with Bruni and official trip to the Middle East, reportedly is worrying his closest aides.

"He giggles at anything," French Prime Minister Francois Fillon has reportedly said. "He just wants to tell jokes or talk about bums."
