Mobster Provenzano is under investigation

PEIDMONT, Italy, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Officials at Novara prison in Piedmont, Italy, have increased security for inmate Bernardo Provenzano, a top figure in organized crime.

Provenzano, 75, has been watched closely at all times behind bars since his April 2006 arrest, but officials suspect he has running illegal operations from his jail cell with encrypted Bible codes and messages, ANSA, the Italian news agency reported Saturday.

Officials reportedly blocked a package and several letters from known mobsters trying to reach Provenzano in prison.

FBI code experts have been asked for help in solving the hidden messages allegedly found in Provenazo's Bible, which authorities allowed him to have in his cell because he is a Catholic.

Jail officials said "all communication" with the free world is out of the question for Provenzano in the light of the latest investigation.
