Clinton neighbor charged with killing wife

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Jan. 4 (UPI) -- A disbarred New York lawyer charged with killing his wife sent birthday flowers to his mistress two days before, court papers released Friday said.

Carlos Perez-Olivo, who lives near former President Bill Clinton and presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., in Chappaqua, is being held in the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail, The White Plains Journal News reported.

His lawyer said that the flowers were not related to the death of Peggy Perez-Olivo. Perez-Olivo told police he and his wife were shot by a man he did not know who jumped into their car and began firing, hitting him in the abdomen and his wife in the head.

"The affair with the mistress ended about a year and a half before the shooting," Robert Buckley said. "He ended it. This is not new news to people who know him and support him, including his children."

Perez-Olivo was charged with second-degree murder 13 months after his wife's death in November 2006. Under police questioning, he admitted a long affair with a woman he originally met in Puerto Rico, with other short relationships and sex with prostitutes as well as financial wrongdoing.

At one point, he joked that he was disbarred for acts he did not commit, while the authorities never learned of his actual wrongdoing.
