Opposition leader Raila Odinga has repeatedly accused incumbent President Mwai Kibaki of corruption. The results from the election are expected to be close, CNN said.

Many Kenyans have said they want change in the country's leadership but numerous others credit the current president with keeping Kenya's economy strong.

Fears that tensions surrounding the presidential race would lead to violence in the country have failed to materialize. There were no reports of violent incidents related to the election as of midday Friday.
