RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- King Abdallah bin Abdulaziz al-Saud of Saudi Arabia issued a royal order stating that only the kingdom creators' decedents can name the country's king.
The order also stipulated that only decedents of the late King Abdel Aziz al-Saud, could declare allegiance to the crown prince, KUNA reported Monday. Members of the supreme authority of allegiance must also be descendants of the founder of the kingdom under the order.
Only direct descendants "have the right to choose the monarch of the kingdom and declare allegiance to the crown prince," read the order.
The order appointed Prince Meshaal bin Abdulaziz al-Saud head of the 34-member allegiance authority.
One by-law also reads that in the event of the king's death, the authority will have an immediate meeting to take the oath of allegiance for the crown prince as a new king and within 10 days a new crown prince will also be chosen.
