TRIPOLI, Libya, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi has refused a European Union request for help ending illegal immigration from North Africa.

Gadhafi said the problem is the result of European colonialism and Europe must resolve it on its own, Med Basin Newsline reported Monday.

"Either you give us back our resources or you invite us in your countries," Gadhafi was quoted as saying Saturday at the EU-Africa summit in Lison. "That's a fairly straight choice."

"The concept of colonialism was a negative experience," Gadhafi said. "The backlash is Europe's difficulty now, which is immigration. Our natural resources were robbed. Underdevelopment was imposed on Africa."
