MOSCOW, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Russia has accused the United States of backtracking on promises regarding a proposed missile shield in Europe.

Envoys from both countries are to meet Thursday in Budapest to continue talks on the shield proposed by the United States and opposed by Russia, ITAR-TASS reported Sunday.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the United States rolled back on promises made during previous talks in Moscow, the Russian news agency reported.

Lavrov did not elaborate on why Russia was disappointed in written proposals submitted by the United States on the proposed shield.
