Suspected DUI killer: 'Life's too short'

AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- A Peruvian woman's MySpace page includes her baby's sonogram but fails to mention she is a fugitive who allegedly was at the wheel in a fatal Texas crash.

Evelyn Mezzich's page includes a quote, "Life's too short to bitch, so live it up." That line outrages Marilyn Datz, whose daughter, Lindsay Ann Brashier was killed at the age of 18 when she was a passenger in Mezzich's car in 1996.

"She's out there in front of our noses on MySpace drinking and partying," Datz told the Houston Chronicle. "She has never said I'm sorry. She had chances, but she made no effort."

Mezzich and Brashier were roommates at the University of Texas in 1996. Mezzich was charged with manslaughter and intoxication assault but jumped bail and fled to her parents' native country, Peru. Another roommate who was in the car was paralyzed.

She has been able to remain there because the extradition treaty between the United States and Peru did not cover the crime with which she was charged. But U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, said that recent changes may make extradition possible, and he is pushing for prosecutors to take up the case.
