Suit: Transgender candidate misled voters

RIVERDALE, Ga., Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Two failed candidates for the City Council of Riverdale, Ga., claim a candidate in the upcoming runoff election committed fraud by running as a woman.

Georgia Fuller and Stanley Harris have filed petitions asking Clayton County Superior Court to toss the results of the Nov. 6 election and halt the upcoming runoff, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday.

The suit claims incumbent Ward 2 Council member Michelle Mickey Bruce, who is identified in the suit as Michael Bruce, misled voters by running for office as a woman. Bruce, who was first elected to a four-year term in 2003, identifies herself as transgendered.

The suit also names Ward 2 candidate Wayne Hall, who is scheduled to face Bruce in a Dec. 4 vote; City Manager Iris Jessie; City Clerk Stephanie Thomas; Bruce; and Ward 4 incumbent council member Kenny Ruffin.

The failed candidates also allege Thomas illegally tampered with voting machines. The voting

machines weren't certified by the secretary of state's office, the suit alleges.
