Retired cop denies killing wives

NEW YORK, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- A retired Illinois police officer denied Wednesday he killed either his third or fourth wives, saying one died by accident and the other is with another man.

Drew Peterson, in an interview on NBC's "Today," said he is angry at the reporters and TV crews gathered at his house, not at police investigators.

"I can look you right in the eye and tell you I had nothing to do with either of those instances," he said. "I'm not afraid of law enforcement. I'm afraid of the media."

Peterson is retired as an officer in Bolingbrook, southwest of Chicago in Will County.

Illinois authorities exhumed the body of Kathleen Savio, Peterson's third wife, Tuesday. Her death in 2004 was ruled an accident.

A neighbor found Savio's naked body in the bathtub. While she had a large cut on her head and the tub was dry, an autopsy found she had drowned.

Stacy Peterson was last seen Oct. 28. Drew Peterson said on "Today" she told him she had met another man, but her family members have said they believe she is dead and she would never have left her two small children.
