NEW DELHI, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- A man, whose 14-year-old Indian son died in a hospital, claims a teacher caused fatal injuries by beating the boy for scribbling or doodling in his notebook.

The Times of London quoted police as saying Ajay Kumar, who had been on a ventilator at a New Delhi hospital since collapsing in his class Oct. 23, died this week.

Police were investigating the case after the boy’s father complained that Ajay’s hands and legs “became motionless” after he was allegedly hit by the teacher.

“My son’s fault was that he was scribbling in his notebook and writing over his teacher’s signature,” the father was quoted as telling the Hindustan Times newspaper.

A separate TV channel report said the boy had been caught trying to forge his teacher’s signature on his report card, the Times report said.

Police were awaiting autopsy results before deciding whether to file charges. The teacher hasn't been arrested.
