Report: Prince Philip has heart condition

LONDON, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Britain's Prince Philip keeps hundreds of engagements a year despite suffering from a worsening heart condition, London's Daily Mail reported Saturday.

Philip, 86, has carried out nearly 400 engagements a year since he was diagnosed with the heart condition 15 years ago, the Daily Mail said.

The prince, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, needs regular medication and his guards are on alert to take him to a hospital immediately if he becomes dizzy or short of breath.

"He has regular checkups but recently there has been some concern as he was feeling unwell," said a senior courtier adding, the prince rarely takes a day off sick and rarely sees a doctor.

Philip in the past has denied he is in poor health. Several years ago when he suffered facial bruises from slipping in the bath he asked a journalist, "Do I look bloody ill?"
