Winds expected to fan California flames

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- More light to moderate Santa Ana winds are forecast for wildfire-swept southern California along with a dry air mass, meteorologists reported Friday.

“Yesterday … computer models were calling for an offshore flow returning with a possible light to moderate Santa Ana setting in on Monday,” Ken Clark, an Accuweather meteorologist said.

The forecast also calls for a dry weather pattern to settle for the weekend.

Clark noted that the expected gusts would be nowhere near the hurricane force winds that fanned the wildfires spreading across southern California. Winds are expected to gust around 15 to 30 mph with the pending weather pattern.

The fires across southern California burned nearly 500,000 acres, destroying nearly 1,500 homes across the region. Seven people died in the blazes.
