MySpace page leads to suspected killer

OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Police in Oakland, Calif., say a gang's MySpace page helped lead to a suspect in the killing of a high school football player.

Investigators said Dwayne Stancill, 19, admitted killing Greg "Doody" Ballard Jr., a football player at San Leandro High School, KTVU-TV reported. Stancill gave no reason for the shooting, although he said he was drunk Oct. 13, the report said.

"There was no argument. There were no harsh words. There was no … anything that would normally provoke a violent response from someone from what we typically see," Police Sgt. Tony Jones said. "He told us he just shot him."

Jones said detectives heard that a member of an East Oakland gang was the killer. They checked the MySpace page of the "Hyfee Boyz" and found information that led them to Stancill.

"I think it is sad that a life is lost," Jones said. "Basically two lives are lost. All of these families are turned upside down and this kid's reason for doing it is … there isn't one. He didn't have a reason."
