Carnegie Mellon awarded $25 million grant

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- A $25 million grant has been awarded to the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa., to help attract students and faculty.

The money, from the Richard King Mellon Foundation, will also be used to build labs in the life sciences, The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Monday.

"This grant represents a powerful vote of confidence in Carnegie Mellon and a major investment in the future of our region," said university President Jared L. Cohon in a statement.

The money will go into the Life Sciences Competitiveness Fund, which will help hire faculty and support graduate students in fields like computational biology, medical robotics and biomedical engineering.
