JERUSALEM, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Former Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia says upcoming regional peace talks must yield results or Israel could face another uprising.
"If the talks fail, we can expect a third and much more severe intifada," Qureia, who heads the Palestinian negotiating team, was quoted saying on Army Radio. The Second Intifada began shortly after the Camp David accords in 2000.
Qureia backed away from Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas' demand Wednesday that Israel withdraw from all lands captured in the 1967 Six-Day War, saying Palestinians are not opposed to territorial exchanges, Haaretz newspaper said Thursday.
It remained unclear which countries will participate in the summit.
Syrian President Bashar Assad said Thursday his country would not participate, The Jerusalem Post reported. Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia have not confirmed their participation.
The Post said some Arab leaders have declared the summit a waste of time.
