SIMI VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 9 (UPI) -- A lone gunman methodically killed a woman outside a California shopping mall tire store and wounded two men inside before killing himself Monday.
Police ruled out robbery and were looking for a personal motive for the 7:30 a.m. shootings at a Tire Pro franchise in Simi Valley, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Police were withholding the names of the dead until relatives could be notified. Shop owner Henry John Heeber IV, 37, was hospitalized in fair condition, while store employee Albert Ramirez, 20, was in serious condition following surgery for a stomach wound.
"There's probably some relationship between this business and the shooter, or between the woman and the shooter," police Sgt. David Livingstone said.
The Rev. Joe Schimmel of Blessed Hope Chapel told the Times the wounded victims described the gunman as very methodical. They told him the shooter walked up to the store entrance, pulled a gun out of a bag and shot the woman sitting in a waiting area outside. He hen went inside and shot the men before taking his own life.
"We have no idea who this gunman was," Stephan Long of Am-Pac Tire Pros said. "This was not a disgruntled employee."
