Iranian FM advises French officials

TEHRAN, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Sunday the French government shouldn't follow the United States' lead regarding the Islamic Republic.

Citing France's apparent acceptance of the United States' aggressive stance toward Iran, Mottaki said his country would actively respond to any French government officials who embraced a similar foreign policy, Iran's Press TV reported.

"Tehran will take legal steps against the French officials who are attempting to pursue Washington's hostile agenda for confronting Iran," Mottaki said.

"France cannot proceed with this policy in the future and its national interests are certainly not in line with the political goals of America."

The Iranian TV group said French officials have been attempting to take a conservative approach when dealing with Iran since French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner's recent incendiary comments.

Kouchner had said despite improved relations between the European Union and Iran, the international group should impose economic sanctions against the Middle Eastern nation.
