Simpson's gold Rolex fake

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- A watch surrendered by O.J. Simpson to the Goldman family turned out to be a knockoff rather than a gold Rolex, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.

"It was made by the finest craftsmen in China," said David Cook, the Goldman family lawyer. "It's a people's Rolex."

A judge ordered the watch -- originally thought to be worth $12,000 to $22,000 -- given to the Goldman family as part of their decade-long struggle to collect $33.5 million from Simpson for the death of their son, Ron Goldman, who was slain in 1994 with Nicole Simpson Brown, Simpson's ex-wife.

Simpson was acquitted of murder charges, but a jury later found him liable for the killings and ordered the civil judgment.

The Goldmans, who have yet to collect any significant money, said they plan to return the $125 fake Rolex to Simpson, now charged with armed robbery and kidnapping stemming from an incident last month with a sports memorabilia collector in Las Vegas, the Times reported.
