The law firm's secretary and Giordano's father and uncle were hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

The standoff began Thursday afternoon and ended early Friday after Ashley and police traded gunfire and police threw tear gas into the building after trying to negotiate with Ashley, Town Talk reported.

Ashley was a retired city of Alexandria Public Works employee who acquaintances said had been depressed over the death of his daughter earlier this year.
