Rescued wife angry with husband

MAPLE VALLEY, Wash., Oct. 2 (UPI) -- A Washington woman is safe after being trapped upside down in her crashed SUV for a week but is still peeved with her husband for taking so long to rescue her.

Tanya Rider, 33, of Maple Valley is out of intensive care and in satisfactory condition being rescued last week, The Seattle Times reported Tuesday. But Tom Rider, 39, told the newspaper she's still angry with him.

"She seems to blame me for not finding her fast enough," he said. "She remembers being trapped, clawing at the seat belt and not being able to get it off. That's tearing me up inside. I was hoping she wouldn't remember anything."

He had repeatedly called her cellphone after she disappeared Sept. 20 but the calls went to voice mail, indicating the battery had died. Eventually, authorities used records of those calls to pinpoint where the accident occurred and find her.

Tom Rider initially was critical of the slow response to his wife's disappearance. It turned out there was some miscommunication about whether only Tanya Rider had access to a bank account that showed activity, which delayed the search. Rider said Monday he was satisfied with Sheriff Sue Rahr's responses to him.
