Ga. man sentenced to death for killing two

BRUNSWICK, Ga., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- A jury in Georgia Sunday sentenced Stacey Ian Humphreys to death for brutally killing two real estate agents nearly four years ago.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that after 22 total hours of deliberation during the penalty phase of Humphreys' case, the 12-person Glynn County jury recommended he be executed for the November 2003 deaths of Lori Brown and Cynthia Williams.

Cobb County District Attorney Pat Head said the jury's decision was appropriate given the brutality Humphreys employed while kidnapping, robbing and eventually killing the pair.

"Death is not anything to celebrate, but it is the correct punishment in this case," he said.

"He (Humphreys) took away all their humanity."

Humphreys previously was found guilty of robbing the two female Realtors at a model home sales office in Cobb, Ga., before making them strip naked and then shooting them each in the head.

The newspaper said an appeal of the jury's decision is automatic given that it handed down a death penalty to Humphreys.
