Missing woman found through cell phone

RENTON, Wash., Sept. 28 (UPI) -- A Washington state woman pinned in her car was found alive eight days after her car crashed into a ravine when police tracked the "pinging" from her cell phone.

Tanya Rider, 33, of Maple Valley, Wash., was rescued Thursday from the crushed wreckage of her sport utility vehicle, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported Friday.

"It's a miracle," Tom Rider said, telling The Seattle Times his wife was suffering kidney problems and sores from being trapped in the same position for more than a week.

Rider, who was listed in critical condition, was eastbound on state Route 169 near Renton when she apparently missed a turn, crossed the centerline and rolled down a hill, the Post-Intelligencer reported.

After searching days for Rider, police sent a "pinging" signal to her cell phone, which told them which cell tower Rider's phone was near. That approximate position allowed searchers to find her, the newspaper report said.
