MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Larry Craig seemed in control and not at all panicky as he negotiated a guilty plea after being arrested in an airport bathroom, said a prosecutor.
"At no time during the conversations did the defendant appear to have a tone or sense of urgency, panic or overt emotion," prosecutor Christopher Renz wrote in an affidavit regarding Craig, R-Idaho.
Craig has maintained he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct out of panic after he was arrested June 11 for allegedly signaling an undercover officer that he wanted to have sex in the bathroom of the airport in Minneapolis, CNN reported Tuesday.
Craig has said he won't resign from the Senate if he can get the plea vacated in Hennepin County District in Minnesota.
In three separate telephone calls, Craig questioned Renz at length about the details for a plea agreement, Renz said, describing Craig as "calm and methodical." Renz said he advised Craig the plea would become public and to seek the counsel of a lawyer, advice Craig rejected, CNN reported.
